What happens when two people get lost on a mountain?

While heading back after a day of skiing on the mountain, Claire and Shaw get lost during an unexpected storm. With too much wind to continue on, they stop for a night at what seems to be a quaint little cottage.

When the two wake the next morning, they are in for the shock of their lives; something they cannot explain.

Excerpt

They knew they were lost after a couple of hours. The ski trail was the one they always used, after eating at their regular lunch spot. The path they tried to take to the road was the same as it always was, but it wasn't. Not really, or they would have come to the road already. Everything looked right, but it couldn't be.

“This isn't right,” Shaw said, a worried look on his cold, red face.

“I know,” replied Claire, feeling a little winded. “We should have gotten to the road an hour ago. Do you suppose we went the wrong way?”

“How could we have? We followed our own path, and it has always brought us to the road.”

Shaw and Claire stopped, taking a look around. Both were sure they were on the right path, but they couldn't be. They'd been moving too long, and the road was nowhere in sight. Shaw took off his hat and wiped his forehead with the back of his gloved hand. “Let's change direction.” He started moving again, veering slightly to the east.

They went on in this direction for just over an hour, but still didn't come to the road. They hadn't seen any sign of life, and no dwellings. Again they changed direction, but to no avail. It was now getting on dinner time and they were thoroughly lost, not to mention scared, hungry, and exhausted.

From what I read, sounds more like a horror story evolving. But it may just be a thriller after all. Categories being what they are.
