Excerpt
“They took me in when I was four. I don't really remember it, but I know that within a short time they seemed nervous around me. I recall, when I was six, crying over something and the television blew up. They said that I had done it, but I was nowhere near the television at the time.
“My mother was angry with me for coming home late one day. At the dinner table she told my father, and that had made me angry. All of a sudden, the silverware that had been on the table started flying around the room. My parents screamed at me and sent me to my room. I was ten at the time.”
The old lady was still smiling at me, like she knew what I was talking about. My eyes were tearing up.
“When I was eleven, I had a horrible dream that my foster fathers' brother had been murdered. I woke up screaming and they came to me. I told them about the dream, and they dismissed it as just a nightmare. Nothing to worry about. They assured me my uncle was fine and told me not to worry. I was relieved and went back to sleep.
“The next morning, they received a phone call. Fathers' brother had been murdered while on vacation. My parents had treated me like I was the murderer,” I explained, crying softly.
