That Last Weekend
Four days of snatched time
from out your busy life.
Four normal days for us
nothing much to recall.
Reading curled on a chair.
Discussion about furniture,
Web ordering it in oak
Thoughts about Clive,
Still all was normal
nothing out of place.
I took you to the station
one quick hug and you were gone.
Forever.
Now we wish we could recall,
every last moment we had,
all the words, all the laughs.
But I afraid we can’t.
We never knew that it was
the last time we’d see you.
Even given more time
Would it have been different?
We might still only have had
One quick hug before going,
As we never knew it was
