PROLOGUE
Some people set out to write a book. They put an enormous amount of effort and time into researching it, and the end result usually justifies the means.
This book was not planned. In fact, it is more of an accident than an intention. At my time of life, rapidly approaching the “three score years”, it occurred to me that I had collected a remarkable amount of stories and experiences in my lifetime, many of them stranger than fiction, all of them enjoyed (or so I’m told) by the many people subjected to them at one time or another either at work, family gatherings, weddings, wakes or just over a pint in the pub.
So in actual fact, the research has been done, and, without my knowledge at the time, was being filed away for the future.
More than a few people have said to me, “You should write a book!” So, for all of you – it’s your fault!
Sit back and enjoy, because there is only one guarantee I can give – it was all true.
