The tasks and exercises she sets are all in the context of peoples day to day lives, adhering to the fundamental principle that in the midst of the apparently ordinary the extraordinary can be found.

“I decided that it would be a good idea to sit and meditate upon a brick wall. I reasoned that I needed something to focus on, to empty my head of all thoughts and concentrate on one thing only. If I could understand the essence of the wall, I would under- stand everything. So, I gave up everything in my life and rid myself of all distractions. Amongst many things, I gave up love, comfort and money and went in pursuit of a wall that would suit my purpose.”
“Wouldn’t any wall have done?” I asked.
“Oh no,” he replied seriously. “It had to be in a quiet place where I would not be disturbed and the wall had to be such a height that I could not see over it.”
“Oh,” I said, trying not to giggle.
“I eventually found the wall and began my meditation. I was determined to contemplate it until I was enlightened and to achieve the ultimate; to be able to walk through it,” he explained. “I looked at that wall from every possible angle; sideways, left and right, straight on and I even, at times, stood on my head to get a different view of it. On occasions I tried to put my hands through it, but I just ended up with bruises on my knuckles. There were times though when I thought I was getting somewhere, the wall would appear to shimmer and spin, but I soon realized that that was down to sunstroke!”
“Anyway, to cut a very long story short, eventually, after four very painful years of sitting and staring at the brick wall and feeling very isolated, I suddenly had clarity, I had the break- through. The realization of what I was looking at began to dawn on me. I finally knew what I was staring at.”
“And what was it you were staring at?” I asked intrigued.
“A brick wall!” he replied
