Len bowed his head and lifted his gaze, staring into the eyes of the shifter responsible for dividing the Eastern Tennessee Moonlight Clan Council pack. Outrage blurred his vision. Hatred consumed him. If he’d ever wanted another shifter’s demise, it was now. After an exchange of snarls and low growls, Len let out a tremendous howl.
Corey whimpered. Inching back, the wolf acted as if he might retreat and give up and accept his defeating loss.
Let’s get out of here. Ray’s eyes met Len’s as he transmitted silent messages, his warning destined for unwarranted action.
I can’t leave him alive. Len relayed back to him before pursuing the other wolf.
Corey whined, the pathetic sound of a weakened voice never deterring Len as he stalked him. He attacked once again, savagely going for Corey’s throat.
An ear-piercing screech came from behind them. Without further warning, a small white wolf pounced onto the scene, attacking Len before he had the opportunity to finish Corey and leave him for the vultures.
By the time Ray joined them, the white wolf had taken a bite out of Len’s side. A steady stream of blood colored the pale blanket of freshly fallen snow as he whimpered in agony.
Shifting immediately, Ray rushed the blade Corey had held in his hand prior to shifting. At the same time, a gorgeous blonde tumbled across the snow, leaving her wolf form. Her graceful moves were almost as spell-binding as her voluptuous nude body.
The newcomer dove for the weapon. At the same time, Ray snatched the knife from the ground and wheeled around to face his opponent.
Shock stamped its place in Ray’s eyes as he faced her. “What the hell is this?”
The woman strutted forward, her cocksure attitude most noticeable. Well, other than the boobs.
Shifting too, Len fell against the ground, staring at the chilling sky as he cursed his attacker. A woman had injured him? A damn she-wolf had struck from his blindside?
Cursing filled the air and Len took a painful breath, wrapped his arms around his torso and tried to stand.
Ray and the young woman fought for control over the only weapon on the field. Swinging to the left, the blonde one propelled her leg from one side to the next, following through with several brutal kicks, her foot making connection with Ray’s groin.
“Bitch!” Ray screamed, doubling over.
“Is that the best you’ve got?” she asked, striking his jaw with her foot.
“Mother of hell!” Ray yelled, this time shaking off his shock just in time to block another series of damning kicks.
A struggle immediately commenced. Ray toppled over the avenging blonde, the woman who had undoubtedly chosen her side prior to entering the weathered clearing topping the Hart Ranges.
Corey howled in agony as he scooted further away from Len, apparently under the misguided impression that Len could indeed put him down once and for all. If the damned vixen hadn’t stabbed him, perhaps Len would’ve been in better shape. Then, Corey would’ve already drawn his last breath and would’ve been three steps closer to the gates of hell.
As Corey hobbled away on three legs, the blonde one jerked. Her gaze followed him as he left the clearing. Without a doubt, she’d surmised the situation and possessed a clear understanding.
She was left to fight for a territory she would never own, facing enemies she didn’t even know.
“You have a choice now, doll,” Ray said, keeping his distance, but waving the knife in front of her face. “What’d ya say we kiss and make-up, sweet thing?”
The blonde one snarled. “I can take you.”
“For about a minute,” Ray said, staring at her breasts as he dabbed blood from his lip. “But if you’re gonna take me, why don’t you and I agree to let bygones be bygones. Then, maybe we can both enjoy the season of giving and receiving.”
