My mind is going a thousand times a minute. I’m making a mental note on several items that I have to pick up from the grocery store to prepare for dinner tomorrow night with Myles. I pick up my cell phone again and pushed the number three button on the phone to speed dial Gabby’s cell phone number. After several ring her call notes pick up. “Hello, you have reached the voice message of Gabrielle. Unfortunately I am unavailable to handle your call at the present moment. So at the sound of the tone, please leave your name, telephone number; and a brief detailed message, and I will return your call at my earliest availability” she said.
Gabby is never available present moment or the past. She is always on the go and seems to never be at home. I leave her a brief, but detailed message and tell her that Myles will be coming into town tomorrow and that I myself may not be available. I let her know that I was just kidding, but to please call me as soon as she can, and then punch the end button of my cell phone; and place it in the side pocket of my purse. Maria is finishing up and I reach into my billfold for a ten-dollar bill to leave her a tip. She always does a great job and my feet feel smooth as a baby’s bottom. I let her know that I will see her in two weeks for manicure and polish change.
I slid into the drives seat of my truck and start my engine when my cell phones rings. I look at the caller ID and see that it’s Dante’ calling and push the end button to send him to voicemail. I hadn’t spoken with him for several weeks. The night that the intruder tried to gain entry to my home, he did not return my call. I know with him being a businessman that he would check his messages on a regular basis and assumed that he heard the fear in my voice when I left him a message. So now, I’m wondering why after all this time does he even bother to call me. My phone signals that there is a new message and I ignore it and put my phone on the charger.
I’m thinking to myself that I don’t have time for players or the likes of Dante’. I was disappointed because I thought that maybe we could have become something serious down the line. I felt that he was too much of a ladies man, and despite my better judgment gave him a chance anyway. Maybe he’ll get the hint and move on, because at this point I would hate to have to hurt his feelings. Don’t get me wrong, Dante’ is a desirable man and he’s very much my cup of tea; but being a player is not for me.
I check my side and review mirrors before I pack out of the parking slot, then head toward Millshire Lane so I can stop by the grocery store for the items that I quickly jotted down on receipt found underneath my visor. I can’t wait to see Myles and wonder how he will think about when we both finally met for the first time. I check my watch and then head towards the entrance ramp to I-70 as I’m humming along with Will Downing.
