The Meri, one of the two primary ruling forces in Caraid-land, changes the destiny of her people forever when she chooses to release Taminy, a former vessel of the Meri who was prosecuted as a witch.
The Crystal Rose continues the story of Taminy and the wrinkles she and her followers have made in the seemingly smooth fabric of Caraid-land. It is a darker book than either The Meri or Taminy because it deals in some depth with the battle between powers that are self-serving and oppressive (personified in the tale's truly nasty antagonist, Daimin Feich and his ilk) and a power that is liberating and progressive. The effects of such a battle can't help but be devastating to the warriors, the civilians and the general landscape. Crystal Rose is a tapestry of small intimate stories that weave together to form the larger tale about the coming of age of a nation's soul.

I had to burn through this series of books. It was wonderful to see the application of spiritual values, an understanding of God's Covenant, and as is her skill - the choices that make people good or evil.
I wish the series would continue - there is a lot the culture has to go through yet to come to a full realization of the equality of women and men. It would be so nice to see a diversity of characters undertake how to get a culture to change, one heart at a time.
