A candid, informative, provocative and humorous look into professional football. This is a book for all ages and sexes and unique as a sports book since it has no profanity.

The author features Fred Wyant, an official for 27 years in the NFL, 19 of those as a referee. Wyant begins where others end. Chapters include: the calls officials miss most and why; the greed of owners who want public funding for new stadiums; the pros and cons of instant replay; the lack of role models today; and the tolerance of coaches and owners who allow players who perform on the field to abuse women, drugs and alcohol off the field.

From delineating how each member of the team is challenged with 1,500 decisions in a game to illuminating league politics, Wyant reveals what it's really like to be part of America's most popular sport. Considered by his peeers as one of the league's best referees, he never officiated a Super Bowl becuse he operated "outside the system" of his Park Avenue supervisors.

Author Rene A. Henry blends Wyant's account with more than 70 interviews of executives, players and coahces including Mike Ditka, Don Shula, Sam Huff, Lou Holtz, Peter Ueberroth, Johnny Unitas, Bart Star, Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, Marv Levy, Chuck Howley, owners Michael Brown and Dan Rooney and referees Jim Tunney and Red Cashion.
