Day 1
Past
Isaiah 43:18-19
“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.”
Are you someone who likes to hold onto your past? I am. I hold on to many things in my past. You probably do too. You have so many things you hold on to when it comes to the past. Right now, you are probably thinking, “How do I hold on to my past?”
You hold on to the past through bad and good experiences you had in life. Bad experiences can include abuse, trauma, depression, self-esteem issues, poverty, alcohol, drugs, etc… Good experiences can include being successful, having accomplishments, doing good with a particular talent or sport, etc… You could be one of these people. You could be a person with a past full of bad experiences or a past full of good experiences.
However, God does not want you to hold on to your past because the future He has for you is completely different. Your past is not your future and your future is not your past. The past is the past and the future is the future. What God really wants is for you to deal with your past and to let go of it. He wants you to put your past behind you and for you to focus on your future.
How do you put the past behind you? You forget about it, not remember it, not consider it, and not focus on it anymore. If you continue to remember, consider, and focus on your past, you cannot move forward into the future God has for you. Isaiah 43:18 states, “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.” In order to deal with the past, you have to forget about it. Do not even think about remembering or considering it anymore. Do not put your focus on the past.
When you deal with your past, you can step into the future God has for you. Once you step into the future God has for you, you will see that you have no reason holding onto the past. God truly longs for you to have your focus on the future He has for you. Let go of the past and put your feet into the ultimate future He longs to give to you.
