Franklin is secretly participating in a project attempting to clone our Holy Savior. He smuggles the sacred DNA to his friends, cloning expert Jerry Watson and DNA specialist, Paul McGuire. They discover two sets of DNA on the sample. One set is used to clone Jerry Watson’s only child. The other DNA is given to an unsuspecting woman, Mary Hansen. The possibility of “J2K” is discovered by the Vatican, and the following day, Du Franklin dies in a car accident and Jerry Watson’s office is ransacked, and he is killed. Jerry’s friend and colleague, Paul McGuire, disappears. Mary Hanson’s only son, Joshua, grows up spiritually aware, and after high school, he goes on a quest through Europe. Josh falls in love in Paris, and quickly learns that young love can be fleeting. Returning home, he meets a beautiful yoga teacher to whom he is strangely attracted. Her name is Madeline Watson, daughter of Dr. Jerry Watson, who had cloned his daughter from the second set of DNA. The rest of the book follows their discovery from whence they came and how they are going to use it to right the wrongs and change the world as we know it. Joshua writes a book, Resurrection, If Christ Were Alive Today. In his book, however, he comes across as if he is the reincarnation of Jesus. This does not set well in the organized religious right. Father Garcia, now heading a non-denominational church in Costa Rica, hears of Joshua’s claim, and is certain that he is the fulfillment of the prophecy for Yeshua’s return. Summoned to the Vatican, Josh is required to explain his claim and is warned not to continue his blasphemous teachings. Instead, Joshua decides to go to Jerusalem to attempt to arbitrate their disputes. Things do not go as planned. Deep below the sacred walls of the Vatican in a highly guarded section of the Holy City called the catacombs, a dedicated priest, Father Jose´ Garcia, stared at an ancient paper scroll in disbelief. The translation of the early Aramaic language into modern day English was slowly beginning to take shape, but now Garcia’s fingers began to shake with each new stroke of his pen. Discovered by a man named Kando in Qumran, in 1947, this particular document had been acquired covertly by a representative of the Holy Church. Only those working in the catacombs knew the story of its acquisition. Kando had delivered four of the scrolls to the Syrian Monastery in Jerusalem and attempted to sell them to the Archimandrite of Saint Marle. When Kando showed up for the meeting, no one seemed to know anything about the appointment, and he was turned away at the gate. Returning to his shop with the scrolls, Kando met with a representative of the Holy Church in secrecy. As far as the outside world knew, this particular scroll did not even exist. When this group of scrolls became the Pope’s pet project, the Catholic scholars of the Holy City had personally selected Garcia to handle the surreptitious discovery. As with similar recordings, the parchment was brown with age, the markings in ancient Aramaic, and nothing distinguished its appearance from others that Garcia had encountered during his many years of making sense of such texts. Proceeding purposely as he had what seemed like thousands of times before, Garcia sensed that this particular translation would shape up to be much different from all the others. At first, he was disappointed. The narrative contained basic stories about a small community of monks and their life in the monastery, but the most recent of them told of a new high priest amongst them, giving meticulous description of this “leader of men.” It told what it was like to hear him speak. Yet, nothing stood out as new or remarkable to Father Garcia. He had begun the day expecting more of the same, but when he un-rolled a new section, his bushy eyebrows dipped low over dark brown eyes that narrowed in a moment of pure concentration. Obviously, this was in a different hand than the previous passage. This writing appeared more childlike. It was very odd for a non scholar to have been allowed to put such scribbling onto a master’s scroll. As Garcia continued to stare at the scroll, a certain word caught his breath. There it was, in what seemed like a child’s handwriting, Yeshua, the name reported by so many scholars to be the true name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Repeatedly following the markings with his stubby fingers, while struggling to steady his pen hand, Garcia silently questioned the authenticity of what he was reading. Book Review: Larry Bergeron’s Unknowing Savior

Religion. That one word has defined our world in so many ways. From the beginning of time, that one word has erupted ancient civilizations into warfronts and turned tribe against tribe. That is still true today.

In Larry Bergeron’s book, Unknowing Savior, he takes a fictional look at a huge, ‘what if.’ The book supposes that the DNA of Christ were retrievable from a religious artifact and that modern scientists had obtained it. As many Christians around the world await the second coming of Christ, suppose that second coming came in the form of a genetic clone from a laboratory. Would it be the same person or would it be a different person? What does this event do to people’s faith? As these scientists gather the DNA, amazingly they find two different DNA’s on the same artifact. What could this mean?

Join Joshua (Yeshua) and Madeleine, two young people who just do not quite fit in today’s society, as they journey through life and find their place spiritually. The pair learns their shocking identities. They understand that who they are is why they are different. Young Joshua believes he has spiritual insight to events of the past and Christian beliefs that could change the world. He believes that he has an obligation to correct man’s misinterpretations of religious texts. Will the world want to hear what the young man has to say – or will the world take his life?

For those with strong Christian beliefs, this book should not rock your world. As long as you have the ability to recognize it as pure fiction, it is an enjoyable read. Bergeron is not a religious scholar, nor is he purporting this to be a true story. This is a work of fiction that is intriguing from page one all the way through the final closing word.

Unknowing Savior is fiction with a purpose. Bergeron is actually urging people to allow spirituality into their lives. Perhaps Bergeron he this book while embarking on his own spiritual journey. The book also forces society to take a look at history, and asks readers to become more culturally aware and tolerant. Tolerance is the one thing that young Joshua (Yeshua) is not shown.
