The Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions is the lowest court of record in the Warren County, North Carolina area. This court met every three months throughout the year. From a researcher's point of view the names of more people will appear here more than any other single source of records and some names will only appear here.
There are deeds that are proved and recorded, administration wills that are proved and intestate records, the construction of county roads and bridges across waterways, the licensing of taverns and eating houses and the tax
officials and their districts among other things.
Warren County, North Carolina was formed out of Bute County in 1779. On July 22, 1779, one hundred acres of land was purchased from Thomas Christmas and the tract of land was surveyed by his brother William Christmas to lay off the county seat of Warrenton. Beginning in 1780 the first Courts were held in the home of Thomas Christmas until a new courthouse could be built in the town square.

Administration on the Estate of John Twitty, Esquire, deceased, is granted to Milley Twitty, his widow, and was qualified accordingly, who entered into and executed a bond with Wyatt Hawkins, her security for her faithful administration, on the
said Estate and Letters of Administration is granted to her.

A Deed from John Prince to Luck Key, was proved by the oath of Agrippa Nichols, a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.
Ordered that the road from Fishing Creek bridge, turning out at Peter Davis' fence to come into the road by William Green's house at the fork of the road, be viewed and laid out according to the report of the following Jury (to wit) Edmond Kerney,
Josiah Green, James Sledge, William Powell, Francis Capps, John Weathers, William Cheek, Peter Davis, William Cooper,
Richard Acock, John Cheek, Charles Sansing, Richard Bennett William Alston, Charles Daniel, John Thompson, and Jordan
Rowland, or any twelve of them, and that the same be opened and cleared, be the hands belonging to William Alston,
