As Maddie approached George, a sharp, surprised scream echoed from beyond the Atrium doors. George laughed maniacally while Maddie chuckled and shook her head.
The screamer was Harold the lab assistant. The unfortunate young man had the distinction of being considered edible by anything he worked with. Lately, that thing was a very mobile, very ravenous carniverous bush. The thing had a taste for Harold, and it stalked him relentlessly. So far Harold managed to survive all of his encounters with only minor scrapes and bruises. A good many of the urban legends about the Center were a result of Harold's loud and terrified shrieking.
