the 1st ac from my play Helena

there is music the lyrics are written by myself though i have no sheet music

(In this scene Helena is in limbo’s square shopping with her step-mother and step-sisters)

Step-mother: Helena would you move faster
Cordelia: what a lazy girl, limbo I hate it here
Katrina: yes always dreaming, what are we to do with such a girl?
Helena: I will….
Cordelia: you will what, earn your wings and be one of us?
Katrina: ha I doubt it, its shear luck that our lord lets you live with us
Step-mother: don’t fuss my darlings don’t fret over such a child as this

(They come to a store walking in to look at ribbon Helena staying behind)

Helena: I will earn my wings, actually I should just grow them I don’t know what’s taking so long. (Music starts) I run the blade across my skin (pauses to pick up parcel) to hell is where I’m damned (catches the ice blue eyes of a man passing, gasps) but then the light in an angels eyes seem to bring me back (sighs) I know there’s no hope for me (laughs) I know that he can’t save me but maybe just maybe someday be loved too

(The blue eyed stranger comes up to Helena)

Conall: hello my dear how might a young lad find himself in your circle of friends? (Takes her hand and kisses it gently)
Helena: (walks away) who might this young lad be
Conall: (catches her arm) just a boy caught between two things he desires
Helena: (winces) I don’t think a boy who can’t make up his mind is very worth knowing (walks away, music Is quiet) the charming stranger takes your hand Kisses with soft lips the love in his eyes seem to freeze over hell itself (looks over shoulder) Lucifer bows (turns) hell’s angels die (pause, walks back slowly) and maybe just maybe I could love too
Conall: I see (doesn’t move just stunned silence)
Helena: I apologize I’ve just never been treated….. (Pause)
Conall: like an angel (pause) I can see you have no mark
Helena: ah yes that I have no wings yet I should
Conall: (jumps) what is your name?
Helena: (cocks head to the side) Helena
Conall: Helena?
Helena: yes I’m not an angel of heaven or hell I’m just Helena
Conall: I like it (smiles)
Helena: I guess, I couldn’t tell you if I like it one way or another I’ve had it all my life (nods)
Step-mother: (angry proud tone) what did I tell you about talking Helena?
Helena: sorry step mother (turns)
Step-mother: hurry with those bags girl (walks off slowly)
Conall: (grabs Helena’s arm) wait (bow head) till we meet again Helena
Helena: good bye (winces, turns, music starts soft) the charming stranger takes your hand bows his head regally talks as if I’m some kind of princess (turns to looks as Conall is leavening) Lucifer bows hells angels die(pause)
Cordelia: let’s go you worthless girl
Katrina: stupid girl
Helena: (follows behind step-sisters, music swells then dims) I run the blade across my skin to hell is where I’m damned (catches the blue eyes Conall) and maybe just maybe I could find love too

(They walk away and load all the packages on a hell carriage, Helena rides with the foot man)

Cordelia: mother the ball are we going this year?
Katrina: yes mother we are nearly 17 may we go?
Step-mother: I don’t know my darlings it seems far to exciting for such young girls
(Helena peeks head into the window)

Cordelia: (pulls on the step-mothers arm) mother (wines)
Katrina: (folds hands) please

(Carriage stops at a cottage and Helena helps her family into the house)

(Helena shuts the door behind her step sister Cordelia)
Cordelia-(sits on the red velvet couch cross armed, music starts) come on mother please let us go (begs)
Katrina- (begs with hands folded up against her mother) yes please mother we have our wings let us fly (falls to knees)
Stepmother- (puts hand up in a stopping motion, sweet tone) my sweet darlings it’s too exciting for you yet (pats Katrina on the head)

Cordelia & Katrina-(folds hands and kneels at step-mothers feet) but mother the princes

Step-mother- (leans in to listen)

Helena- (stops cleaning and listens to step-sisters beg)

Helena- (folds hands in front of her around the broom) wouldn’t it be grand

Step-mother-(shoots angry stare at Helena angry tone of voice) HELENA
