Everything in this book happened, pretty much. I was born gender dysphoric, in essence being a female within while being perceived by all around as a male.
I have been asked many times, "What is it like to be transgendered?" The best description I have been able to come up with is this. Imagine that every time you look in a mirror, what you see is wrong, and not only wrong but the complete opposite of what you perceive yourself to be. You see yourself as this, yet the world sees you as that. You are powerless to change what you feel within, what you know with your entire being to be the reality that is you, yet the world continues to see you as that which you are not.
It's a funny thing that gender dysphoria is still described as a mental disease, when all that needs to be changed are physical attributes in an attempt to make it all match, to make one complete.
So, what I have done is attempt to take you on a journey through the life of a transgendered female.
Jamie, my heart goes out to you for your suffering and the pain you have endured the entirity of your life. I believe this is a topic that truly needs to be fully explored and researched and maybe some way they will find the true answers medically/genetically.
