Carrie has been hearing voices in her head since childhood, but mostly chose to ignore them. Then one night, when the voice she can hear seems very persistent, she realizes she has to respond. This leads to a remarkable encounter with a cosmic being, after which her life starts to change dramatically.
Following the encounter, Carrie’s ability to channel information is enhanced and she is made aware that the planet earth has been controlled for centuries and people’s understanding of the truth has been manipulated and suppressed but the time has come for cosmic knowledge to be spread to awaken the inhabitants of the planet and encourage them to join together in a fellowship of unity and cooperation.
Carrie finds herself forced to reassess her values and goals and is guided onto a different path in life where she meets her soul mate, Jason. Together they take on the task of spreading light into the world and help prepare as many people as possible for the dramatic events that are to take place on the troubled earth during the inevitable transition into new, better times.
I consider myself to be a very spiritual person. I have always known that energy originates from one source and everything exists within that energy. Our bodies are dependent upon energy and there is a universal force which governs our existence. My book, The Encounter, has been written around this understanding and brings up various possibilities and often complex, thought-provoking concepts. The information contained within the pages of The Encounter can produce many internal conflicts for the reader. However, the understanding is based upon the energies associated with the universal energy of love. People working in unison with love energies can bring about a greater understanding of how life can be transformed into higher level of consciousness, where thought and perception are improved, refined and enhanced, resulting in greater knowledge, unity and cooperation.

I made my way to the spare room, which was located next to the living room downstairs. Apart from a bookcase and a small table the room was practically empty and I used it for meditation. I closed the curtains to cut out the light and lowered myself onto a soft mat, arranging my body in the lotus position. Closing my eyes I started breathing deeply into my stomach in an attempt to empty my mind.
Almost immediately my body started to feel warm and a quiet voice began:
Many are called, but few are chosen. You have been called and now is the time when you have an opportunity to prove yourself and your commitment to the cosmos. Planet Earth is changing its energetic structure and needs highly energetic people to help with this change. You have reincarnated many times on Earth and other planets of the cosmos to learn and understand the cosmic laws. You have learnt a lot of valuable lessons; the difference between right and wrong, and that cosmic laws are absolute. The cosmic knowledge is within you. The changes that are taking place on your planet now are fully understood by your inner self. You have been preparing for this moment in history for many centuries and now is the time when the cosmos calls for your help. Through your calmness you will be able to access cosmic knowledge and know what needs to be done.
Planet Earth is going through a purification process before it enters into its new energetic structure. There will be earthquakes, floods and volcanic eruptions. Planet Earth is changing - it is clearing itself of unwanted energies, purifying itself to its very core. The inhabitants of Planet Earth are part of this purification process and those who can raise their own personal body frequency will be able to move forwards and benefit from the planetary changes. The ones who are self-absorbed and not prepared to look within will be left behind. The values of the majority of people on your planet are different from the cosmic values. The self-centred attitudes and creed of greed have to go. The new energies descending on the planet, will force people to learn new ways; the ways of the cosmos. As they learn, the old belief systems will be replaced with the new understanding based on cosmic knowledge… These changes have already started and time is running out.
I felt I needed to ask a question.
‘What is my role in all this?’
The voice continued, You are to be a representative of the cosmos. You will act as a channel for new energies and will emanate with high frequency. This frequency will draw other people to you, people you need to educate. You will show them the right way, the way of the cosmos.
‘I am not sure I am properly equipped for the task. My knowledge is limited,’ I said.
The knowledge is within you, and you know how to reach it. We will also teach you while you sleep.
I needed to ask more questions, but I felt that it was not the right time. I had to absorb what I had experienced and learnt already. As though sensing my feelings, the energy behind the voice left my body and the connection was lost.
Untangling my legs, I lay flat on the mat, trying to evaluate what I had just learnt. I was to educate people and show them the right way. I felt that it was too immense a task for one person and I would be unable to do it alone. Silently, I requested guidance. In response I heard:
You are not expected to do it on your own. You will be guided to the one who will help you. For now, carry on as before

I was gripped by this novel from start to finish - and was left wanting more - I do hope there is a sequel so that we may follow Carrie and Jason's exciting journey.
For a first novel I was pleasantly surprised that The Encounter was written with such poise, feeling and insight, and I feel sure it is destined to be a bestseller. It will appeal to both followers of New Age writing as well as those who are curious to know more - anyone who enjoyed Philip Pulman's "His Dark Materials Trilogy" will appreciate "The Encounter".
Hanna Horrell is either very knowledgeable of many new ages paths or she has researched her subject extremely well - making the novel all the more credible. More please!

This book won’t suit everyone, but to the other 99% who have a working brain it should prove a useful addition to their library. The Encounter is strictly a work of fiction, but is it really? I suspect not. I’ve tramped the inner heart and outer fringes of the New Age circuit for decades, and some of the characters in this book are eerily reminiscent of people I’ve actually met. I’m not suggesting for a moment that Horrell has based her characters on living personages, but the accuracy with which she portrays the thoughts and feelings of those within the world of New Age philosophy is stunning.
The plot is similar in some ways to that of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Carrie meets an alien, and becomes a tool for helping our troubled earth pass through a painful transition into better times. She is drawn into a circle of others who have been similarly chosen, and that, really, is only the beginning of the tale.
Why dig into the brain for answers?” asks one of the characters, named Jason. Herein lies the wisdom that underpins this cleverly-crafted novel. The human intellect is often left wanting, and spiritual answers often provide far more workable solutions to both personal problems and burgeoning global calamities.
In all seriousness, Hollywood producers looking for the next big groundbreaking movie could do a lot worse than focus on The Encounter as a possible candidate.
Fiction? Maybe, but The Encounter could be a true-life adventure just waiting to happen. Not to be missed.

This is a novel, but also so much more than a novel. The idea behind the book is to spread channelled information in a format where positive information is a natural part of the story. Getting alternative information into popular culture, whether this be in the form of novels, films or music is something I’ve spoken with a few friends about in the past, so I was excited when I got a phone call about this book and was offered a copy to review.
The story follows Carrie, an artist who is very psychically aware. She has been hearing voices for some time and finally meets the source of the voices, an alien being called Amos who gives her the task of bringing people together to spread light into the world. The story is woven around Carrie’s ability to channel information from alien beings and the “living library” and the message of co-operation and moving forward in a positive way comes through very well. The story basically tries to include as many positive ideas as possible, including things like growing your own organic food, positive music, energy healing, etc. None of this detracts from the story, which has lots of interest and sub plots to keep the reader engaged throughout. I really enjoyed this book and as I was coming to the last few pages I was thinking “I hope the sequel will be out soon!"
