A classic text on slate roof construction, is now back in print. Master slate roof builder Joseph Jenkins has brought back into print the classic “Slate Roofs,” first published in January, 1926, by the then nascent “National Slate Association.”

Other than a slight adjustment to the title, to be more compatible with a 21st-century readership, and a few corrections and stylistic changes, almost all the information is presented exactly as in the original publication, including anachronistic references.

Published February 2020. 132 pages, 8.5"X11". Soft cover, black and white, eight pages are full color. Compiled, edited, and designed by Joseph Jenkins. Published by Joseph Jenkins Inc., Grove City, PA.

ISBN: 978-1-7336035-0-8; Library of Congress Control Number: 2020901720. Printed in the USA.

This book contains a wealth of information on which today’s modern slate roofing industry is based, and therefore remains a valuable addition to the library of anyone interested in roofing, construction, architecture, and history. Included at the end of this publication are 21st-century guidelines for slate roof installation, repair, and restoration as published by the Slate Roofing Contractors Association of North America, Inc., as well as excerpts from Jenkins’ own 2016 Slate Roof Bible (3rd edition).

Excerpt

FOREWORD 2020
It is with great pleasure, honor, and humility that I bring back into print the classic "Slate Roofs," published in January 1926 by the then nascent "National Slate Association" (page 84). Although I adapted the title to be more compatible with a 21st century readership, and I made some corrections and stylistic changes, almost all the information is presented exactly as in the original publication, even anachronistic references. For example, in my 52 years in the slate roofing industry, I never heard of or saw a "flat slate roof" other than in this publication (page 64). However, this book contains a wealth of information on which today's modern slate roofing industry is based. It therefore remains a valuable addition to the library of anyone interested in roofing, construction, architecture, and history. Included at the end of this publication are 21st century guidelines for slate roof installation, repair, and restoration as published by the Slate
Roofing Contractors Association of North America, Inc., as well as excerpts from the 2016 Slate Roof Bible 3rd Edition.
Joseph Jenkins, author and publisher of "The Slate Roof Bible" January 2020
(Note: References in this publication to the "National Slate Association" formed in 1922, are not in any way referring to or associated with the "National Slate Association" that formed in 2002.]
