Tom Santos' book recalls the simpler happier days before we worried about swine flu, terrorists and financial failures. It evokes the times when downtown merchants knew everybody's name, when pin boys worked happily in the Mystic Bowling Alleys on West Main Street, when Mooney's had the best selection of penny candy and tantalizing aromss from Ella's Bakery on East Main St.

Many times as I drive through downtown Mystic I am reminded of the "Good Old Days" when I used to walk the streets of Mystic and I knew everyone downtown; all the merchants and the people waling the streets. Things change, sometimes for the best, but I still remember those old days when things were simple and easy. People seemed happier and more content and proud of their accomplishments, they were willing to help their neighbors and everyone knew everyone.
