Pleasant words to hurting men are sweet to their soul because they don’t hear them often. They sound like a foreign language. That’s why we gravitate toward tough words to build and support the myth of masculinity. To our detriment, we ignore that pleasant words can build us up, and we don’t realize how much we need to hear words that make us get up from our pits of discouragement. When moments of displeasure knock us down, sweet words are all we need to keep us going in the face of pain.
We need pleasant words for confidence; we need sweet words of acceptance and love; we need kind words to restore our lives just as bones need calcium for strength. We have digested too much of the sour grapes of unpleasant words. We need a breath of fresh, healing wisdom blown into the broken areas of maleness to rejuvenate our minds and set us free from addictions. The rich honey embedded within the honeycomb is sweet.
