Ruthie was right. A cloud of shame enveloped Freddy. Mean and Nasty had invaded her brain. Sometimes, she just felt like kicking and screaming, like a little kid. Other times she was happy, and nothing bothered her. It would be nice to talk to her mom about all this, but she was so angry and sad at the same time about her dad and the girlfriend, she didn't have time for her own kids anymore. Was this what being a woman was all about? Freddy didn't think she wanted to grow up so fast if she had to worry about her moods every ten minutes. How could you keep friends, let alone a boyfriend? Freddy didn't like this wanting to cry and then wanting to laugh five minutes later. It was too mixed up.
