Long white gown flowing in the wind behind her, Lilah ran down the weeded path leading to the boat docked at the nearby lake. The rain drizzled down from the pine trees lightly as residue dampened down the strands of her long dark hair. Desperately she glanced over her shoulder to see if she was followed. Relieved that her escape had gone unnoticed, Lilah repositioned her tight grip on her baby daughter Elaina, and slowed her pace. Winded and her gown drenched from the rain, Lilah reached the dock and fell to her knees as she covered her mouth with her hand to smother the sounds of her crying. Aghast at the sight of the missing boat, Lilah knew she’d just ran out of choices and all hope drained from her thoughts.
Elaina whimpered from beneath the blanket Lilah had tenderly wrapped around her to shield her from the rain. The cold from the winter air that blew through the trees amplified the wetness that soaked the two of them. Lilah stroked back the soft baby strands of hair that fell over her eyes, and leaned in long enough to kiss her fears away. Pushing herself up from the muddy bank of the lake, she searched the shoreline in vain for an answer. In the distance, she heard a familiar angry voice echoing her name through the trees. There was no time to plot her next move, it was all too clear what she must do to survive.

I loved the book, it was great. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I would recommend this book to everybody.
