Jade Cromwell's wife and daughter have been taken to a distant galaxy by aliens. Cromwell and his dog, Spike embark on a long journey to find them.
The Silver Dart is a high tech space ship built by Jade Cromwell's genius wife, Darla. She purposely leaves with aliens from another galaxy leaving Jade and their daughter Miss who is also a genius behind. The same aliens abduct Missy. Jade and his dog Spike attempt to find them with the help of Darla's Silver Dart. During the search they encounter aliens, some friendly and need help while others are militant.
The aliens have a great need and take Darla and Missy. Their solar system is being threatened by a giant traveling black hole. At one point Jade is lost in another universe and must return to our universe to help the aliens and rescue Darla and Missy.
Excerpt
Cromwell saw the short shadows cast from a nearby rock cropping. The line between shade and sun took on a combination of red with an outline of white. The white dwarf shone fully on them now. Spike yelped again, then his legs buckled and he plopped down on the dusty ground.
"Oh, Spike." Cromwell dropped to one knee and scooped him up, grunting from his heavy companion but more from the radiation.
He walked several steps, stumbled, dropped to one knee and then gained both feet again. The white hot sun cooked him through his clothes. He stumbled a few more steps, looking at Spike in his arms. Spike breathed heavily and whined as he tried to lift his had and look at his master. He manged to lick Cromwell's hand.
The hovercraft was too far away. Cromwell's legs felt sluggish and he couldn't even manage a survival shuffle. He had to rest.
Cromwell tried to get up but the radiation seemed to push him down. He looked at the back of his exposed hand, now red and inflamed. Spike continued to whine and licked his hand. His tongue felt rough like a cat's and his saliva didn't help take the pain away.
"Spike, if we're going o die,we'll do it together." he cradled his friend's head, holding it against his chest.

Jade Cromwell’s wife, Darla, and daughter, Missy, are abducted by aliens because Darla is a genius who can help save their planet. Jade, an electronics genius, takes off to find them in The Silver Dart, an innovative spaceship designed by Darla. Spike, his Norwegian Elkhound and Australian sheep dog mix goes with him, and is his constant companion and protector. Together they travel to many planets where they meet a vast array of aliens, some friendly; others, hostile. One planet’s inhabitants look like grasshoppers, and another’s are sirens who have magical powers to attract men, but Jade loves only his wife. On the planets with warring inhabitants he often needs the help of Spike to fight fierce battles. Then later he needs the healing chamber of The Silver Dart to get well and continue his quest, or to take care of poor Spike’s wounds. He continuously uses the ship’s safeguard that prevents aliens from entering unless they’re ill and the chamber can help them. He not only travels through the universe helping those along the way to escape various dangers confronting them, he also goes through dark voids and even goes to another universe to find and rescue his family. While trying to save Darla and Missy he falls ill, and the healing chamber fails to cure this malady. It appears he’s not going to make it, but he gets help in a most unconventional way.
Mr. Hammersley grabs the reader from the beginning and takes them into space on a fantastic journey filled with out-of-this-world characters, planets, stars, voids and aliens of many different types. He opens the reader’s eyes to the wonders that could be beyond our reach as Jade and his faithful dog are spreading good will.

If you appreciate highly imaginative, well-plotted and emotion-inducing science fiction, this is the story for you!
Besides achieving the above characteristics, Mr. Hammersley also displays a well-researched, highly readable, and provocative tale of a man, Jade Cromwell, electronics expert extraordinaire, in search through the universe – ours plus several parallel ones – for his wife Darla and their daughter, Missy, both having been abducted by aliens because their brilliance was needed to save a society.
Cromwell's space ship, The Silver Dart, has appropriately been designed by his genius wife, whose own built-in mental ‘ingrams,’ as Mr. Hammersley dubs them, give the starship a nearly human aspect. It is a nice touch that may be new within this genre.
Cromwell is accompanied on his lonely and prolonged quest by his beloved dog, Spike. It is lucky for him that Spike – a mix of Norwegian Elkhound and Australian Shepherd – is of imposing stature and relishes a good fight besides being highly proficient at the craft. He saves Cromwell’s life on numerous occasions throughout the book.
Although Mr. Hammersley is relatively unknown amongst sci-fi fans, his writing is probably equivalent, if truth were known and always uttered within our society, to that of past science-fictions luminaries such as Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein.
I highly recommend this book to anyone truly interested in this particular genre. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in this stellar – pun intended – tale!
