Clay and Julianne meet at a very young age when Julianne saves Clay's life several times. Clay must survive so that he can heal people all over the world with his knowledge of medicinal plants and flowers. Julianne becomes an international relations ambassador bringing peace worldwide, but she becomes a target for an arms dealer and his terrorists. Clay and Julianne fall in love but because of their globetrotting duties they cannot be together very often. They both become a target for terrorist's bullets. Can they survive their far reaching trips, threats to their lives and horrible weather conditions in foreign lands to finally be together at last?
Excerpt
Clay drove to his rural apartment off Tenth Street in the southwestern edge of Indianapolis. When he walked up to his front door there was a package on the step measuring about nine inches cube. Odd, he had not ordered anything. There were no mail markings, so somebody had hand delivered it.
He took it to his kitchen, sat at the table and carefully opened the box. There were packing peanuts inside and the edges of two plastic bags were showing. He pulled on one which seemed to contain something with weight. He carefully lifted it out and gasped. It was the ivory necklace he had given Julianne the day before his parents’ funeral. He looked at each of the intricate letters spelling out their names and remembered how she had held each letter in turn. He began to cry. Then he lifted the lighter plastic envelope out. It contained a long thick strand of her hair.
“No!” he exclaimed, holding both packages to his chest, continuing to weep.
He spotted a note amongst the packing material and fished it out. It read:
If you want to see Miss Benson, be at the corner of Tenth and Belmont tonight at ten. Come alone and be exactly on time.

When Clay is a young boy and Julianne is nine years old, Clay is drowning and Julianne, who has extraordinary strength, pulls him to the surface and saves his life. Clay knows then that he loves Julianne, but their lives take them in different directions after they grow up. Julianne is a peacemaker and travels the world mediating while Clay uses natural plants to heal people in different countries. Julianne becomes a target for some evil people and is wounded. While she’s in therapy Clay travels to a remote location to heal sick people. Disaster strikes and he’s the only person left on the island. He’s presumed dead and Julianne sinks into a very weak state mentally and physically. But he’s persistent. Can he escape and reach Julianne in time to help her heal?
Mr. Hammersley’s book held my interest with its mythical overtones. While Julianne is human, Clay elevates her to a different level, partially because of her physical strength. Clay’s love for her after having seen her only a few times gives him an unusual sensitivity, and they both accomplish greatness helping others with their work. I enjoyed the love story and recommend it for those who like sweet romance with a touch of fantasy and suspense.
