They can be black or white, red or yellow… or maybe even green! “New Friend True Friend” is a poem originally written over 30 years ago and was originally titled “Dragon Tales.” I began thinking about my own children who were all nearly grown at that time and about the things they liked and problems they had. My oldest son loved dinosaurs and dragons and instilled in me the same love by introducing me to “Dinotopia” by James Gurney as well as Anne McCaffrey’s dragon rider books. That’s how a dragon became a part of the poem. Since we were an Air Force family, moving from one base to another became a way of life and often a problem for the children when they had to leave old friends behind and try to make new ones in their new hometown. Thus, developing a new friendship became a part of the poem. Feeling betrayed can also be a part of a new friendship before we truly get to know someone. But that feeling can be turned around when our new friend keeps their promises and a spirit of kindness and understanding grows between them. Dominic Dragon keeps his promise to Jason and does it right away turning Jason’s frown into an uplifting smile. Beautifully Written and Well Illustrated
An absolutely delightful story about friendship, beautifully written and well illustrated, to be enjoyed by children and adults alike. A joy to read aloud and share. It touches some of the deeper issues in a developing friendship, beyond enjoying a common activity.

Whimsical and Fun
Nice picture book for little ones on the value of friendship. The font is nice and whimsical. The pictures are done well and whimsical too. I enjoyed the book and so did my son.

Charming Tale
A delightful story with beautiful illustrations that had my great niece chuckling out loud and asking for her own kite and dragon. Just charming!
