I had gotten a phone call from a woman named Cathy. She left a message on our phone’s answering machine at the apartment before we moved out. She said that she needed to talk to me right away. I reluctantly called her back.
“I’m pregnant, and you’re the Father.” She said to me, emotionless.
“What?” I tried to stall.
“I am pregnant, and you are the Father.” She spoke slower, as if I didn’t understand.
My initial reaction was to deny everything vehemently. After all, I convinced Melissa that I had never touched the girl, and to do that, I had to convince myself of that same lie.
“Its not mine.” I would call her bluff.
“Yes it is. I hadn’t slept with anyone but you for the past year.” She claimed.
“Oh, that’s what they all say.” I would not back down.
“I just thought that you should know. I am due on Christmas day.” She mentioned, and suggested that I do the right thing, and become involved. I had planned to, but I had no idea how I would tell Melissa.
