A Whirling Wind … We take cover in our lives, hope for protection against nature. Dust Devils
Brick wall dims
at twilight,
yet the ball comes back,
a yellow blaze,
faster than it’s hit.
Overhead, lights
snap, their eerie
orange fights
with yellow.
A breeze stirs,
trajectory at first
enhanced, but shifting currents
raise the dust
to devil’s work.
My stroke is warped,
the yellow
ball-blaze disappears.
I swat but miss,
dust in eyes,
torture in soul.
Left alone,
my spirit rises,
yellow ball a dusty portal.
Racket poised,
a slam,
the devil dance defeated.
