Glenda went back to the kitchen, and I reached into my pants. I had an idea to test Shade’s ability to survive the coming debacle. I pulled a tennis ball from my pocket and threw it at his chest.
He never moved, and the tennis ball hit me square in the forehead. He smiled innocently as the ball caromed off my head, bounced across the desk and went rolling toward the door.
“What happened?” I asked. The full realization of what had just transpired was threatening to overload my feeble brain. “How did you do that?”
“Like I said. You worry too much. I have a few tricks up my sleeve. That was fun though. Throw something else at me, try a set of car keys. Har!”
“That’s fine for you. Yuck it up. But what happens if someone throws something at me?” I asked.
Shade got up and retrieved the tennis ball. He threw it and it hit me in the head. He was laughing again.
