Emma stopped in the doorway. She couldn’t go in there. She wasn’t supposed to see him again. No matter what she did during the past few weeks, she couldn’t forget him; his eyes were seared into her mind. She told herself she didn’t have to worry about being hurt because he was only passing through her life.
But she wasn’t at all comforted by that thought. She couldn’t shake the emptiness she felt, knowing she’d never see him again.
