"No Man is an island," so the old poem goes. One man, who believes himself isolated from humanity, learns the meaning of this phrase when he faces his own inner demons while on a quest across time and space.
Eight friends leave their respective universities for their Reading Week breaks, meeting to fly to a skiing chalet. On the way, their jet is buffeted by a freak storm, crashing the plane on the side of a mountain. How they survive, and the forces behind the event, are mysteries that plague them for years.
They return to society from the mountain, with visionary dreams of a dark future. The world begins to crumble around them, leaving these eight friends to rebuild society in the face of apocalyptic destruction. Little do they realize that one of them has a dread secret, and is planning to murder his friends.
The only hope for these friends and for the world is one man, who has separated himself from reality in a spiritual search for truth. Their biggest problem: the killer and their saviour might just be the same person.
