When I saw the Light
It was shining up above
And I, a seeker of the Light
Was feeling so much love.
There was a song in my heart
I was feeling so high
I had left my life behind
Only love would be my guide.
I went up to the mountain
To meditate with the sky
Said goodnight to the sun
Darkness came by and by.
We were sitting there singing
Of courage and of love
And when we finished Greensleeves
There it was, shining above.
Big as a house and round
Without a sound, a soft white Light
Floated above the trees like a cloud
In the dark, moonless night.
And we looked on in wonder
At this awesome scene
At life's pure energy
Consciousness that could be seen.
Then off into the distance it spread
Thinning to tiny points of light
Until all we could see dispersed
And moved off out of sight.
Who and why were we gathered
Upon that mountain top?
Seekers of wisdom, truth and love
Zen meditators , the whole lot.
While we stoood there full of wonder
Someone finally spoke and said,
"If I ever become enlightened,
I'll bet
I probably won't believe it,
And yet...."
