'The Stone Collector', second offering in my stories from Nam, tells of a young, Native American orphan boy who struggles to leave a Catholic orphanage. In his search to for normality and his own family, he joins the Army. Little did he know, in the Jungles of Vietnam, normality comes with many faces. Some choose not to be seen.
Billy Joe Willis had spent most of his young life in an orphanage searching for the normality others seem to enjoy. Upon his sixteenth birthday, the Native American finally found a place to fit in--the United States Army. But the Jungles of southelwest Vietnam were very unforgiving to the young soldier. After being wounded, he got hooked on Darvon, a powerful pain killer. As time progressed, he fell in love with Lin Son, a native of a nearby fishing village. With the help of her Shaman grandfather, An Son, he is escaped the debilitating habit and received an honorable discharge.
After returning home, he found out that Lin and An Son had been killed by the Comunists. Working feeverishly, he was able to send for her parents. Little did he know that An Son was coming as well, butnl this time, he couldn't be seen.
