Prince George’s County, MD—(October 15, 2008)—Anarda Nashai has published an engaging and thought-provoking collection of poetry, told from her own point of view—written over thirteen years ago. School Girl is a most unique compilation, written from the budding prospective of an often curious and perplexed, but excited girl as she paves her way toward womanhood with each and every word she writes.
Using a free-style method of premature confessionalism, Nashai proves that there is much to be told from the voice of a broad young mind, and that the introspection of such should never be underestimated.
Twenty-eight year old Nashai came across some of her old journals filled with poetry she had written between the ages of thirteen and seventeen. “It had been almost seven since I’d read any of my own poetry. While reading, I started to remember what it felt like to create this work. The memory of it all is truly amazing, even as I’m in awe that I actually wrote these words as a kid.”
It is clear from her introduction why she has decided to publish her work after so long. “During my teenage years, I used poetry as my most reliable companion—as a way to relay my thoughts and feelings—of commenting on things that I felt I had no right to think or say at that young age.”

School Girl
now that my teachers know I’m a writer
they say I’m special
…but I’m not really
i describe things
with my heart and mind
compare feelings to wind and to shadows
i see people and places, eyes and hands
and form similes and stanzas
when people open their mouths to speak
i hear it for what it is to me
i mention pleasure and pain
as far and as wide
as my youth will take me
if I taste or smell something sour
i will write that down and keep it forever
that’s all
i’m not special
i’m a school girl…
just as silly and restless
as the rest of them.
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
