As an on and off part time performer, after turning 90, for the first time in my life, I froze and panicked. This led to much reminiscing.
Trying to figure out why I froze and
panicked found me reviewing over 70 years of activities that put bread on the table and paid the mortgage - also it brought out of the memory a similar incident in Hollywood when I was directing an a character actress had a similar attack. It was Zsa Zsa Gabor who got her over it.
I found pictures and composites which follow my career and ageing process.

I invented the vacation time-share which I planned to launch in the Turks & Caicos Islands. I wrestled with their British Colonial administration for two years.
I even explored the Portuguese Cape Verde Islands off the West Coast of Africa for this project. They are equidistant to New York and Stockholm, and while Americans like the tropics for winter vacations, Europeans like them for summer vacations.
In that project I had a comical experience contacting Donald Trump as a possible financial partner. I called and asked for Mr. Trump. The peculiar sounding operator said, “Mr. Trump doesn’t take calls.”
I said, “O.K., let me leave a message.”
“Mr. Trump doesn’t take messages,” she said in a flat voice.
“So how on earth does one ever make contact with him?” I demanded.
“You can write him,” she said and gave me an address.
I was impressed by him, though. He had a responsible and considerate way of turning down strangers who pitched him would-be deals, leaving it open for him to come back in the future. It was a cleverly worded card which cost him pennies and gave him thousands in good will.
Most men at his level simply don’t respond if they’re not interested. Trump doesn’t have that kind of arrogance.
When he announced his candidacy, I hoped he’d go solo and forget about the GOP which was no better than the DNC and I was one of the first to support him.
After 8 years of grinding my teeth over the hypocritic reverse-racist, anti-Semite, Marxist, Islamophile Obama, whom I had helped bring in, Trump seemed like a Godsend. As a dual citizen my concern about America took precedent.
Yes, Trump has some rough edges, suffers from a bit of cultural deprivation, but his concerns matched mine. That lost me some friends but if I’d become aware of their stance earlier, I might never have befriended them in the first place.
Older white folks seem inclined to like Trump. I was intrigued, and watched Trump perform through 14 seasons of The Apprentice. While I have read that much of the drama that went on was a result of the producers and directors, and not Donald Trump, I grew to dislike his tendency to have favorites and management style, which was very contrary to the positives management styles that I knew.
So, when I saw that he was running for president, I said, "No way." And, starting with his reversal on his longtime claim about Obama not being a citizen, forgetting that his Irish roots were hated as immigrants when his ancestors came to the United States, not revealing his tax reports which would clearly show that he was bankrupt six times and bailed out by his father for very bad business decisions. During the show, he showed off his gold plated penthouse home. It reminded me of something that dictators with inferiority complexes do to boost their egos rather than good sense in styling our modern living. Emperor stuff.
While president, Trump has continually downgraded the office with awful tweets and terrible presentations in public. As a spokesperson for our country, in his words, he is a "disaster."
In spite of all this, the older, white-haired, white crowd that seems to be afraid of the improved life of many diverse segments of society held in check by bigotry and hatred, including women, stay steadfast behind this pompous idiot they voted in office. I call it, hardening of the reminiscence. We look back on the 1950s as a wonderful time in our youth. The brain has a wonderful way of remembering the good times over the bad. To return to that life would require that we give unions the power to act. We provide good paying jobs to veterans without having intense skills training even though they may have PTSD, we seek out and destroy the communists in the entertainment industry, we fear the atomic bomb and we make sure that blacks, idiots and cripples and other minorities stay in their ghettos and have little opportunity except in their communities to excel. Yes, the 1950s were wonderful time, as long as we conveniently forget how bad they really were.
