In this book are essays that observe, as if standing on the outside peering inward. There are rhymes, just as life sometimes is in rhythm, and fragmented thoughts that could never submit to the cadence of a constraining rhyme. It laughs and cries and loves and grows old gracefully.

Please don't wish me a good day when the words have little meaning. I cringe at, "Have a good one" and wonder, a good what? The absent-minded mouthing of clerks, waiters and such, rings hollow, as I smile and say, "You too." And find they do not hear me.
