Connie Krus never knew what hit her. From somewhere to her right, silently a maniac had snaked between the other cars in the parking lot now devoid of any human activity. The time was right. With only the brief whooshing sound of a metal pipe traveling through the air, the target had been found quickly and lethally. The silence was punctuated only by the sound of Connie’s parietal bone cracking and a low, breathy, “Take that bitch,” simultaneously uttered for no one else to hear. Though short, her red hair immediately became a tangled mess as Connie fell to the pavement with a light, uneven thud. The blood began pouring from the fracture and soon covered a good portion of her delicate flowered print scrub and began wicking into her ivory colored sweater.
The madman looked around quickly; still no one in sight. Was she dead? He didn’t know and certainly wasn’t going to check. Even if he wanted to, he
didn’t know how. The crazed man put his hand to his mouth and tapped his lip as if he was thinking. He had to make sure, so he swiftly raised the pipe straight over his head and with seemingly no qualms, hurriedly smashed Connie’s skull near the same area as before. Keeping true to the discipline of blood spatter, Connie’s blood had flown in many directions; some sprinkling the bottom of her car while the rest sailed into the parking lot or clunk to the metal pipe.
But one minuscule, warm, wayward droplet found its way to the killer’s cheek. It landed gently; softer than a single drop of water. He recoiled from its now cool presence; stumbled backward two steps, dropped the metal pipe and flung wildly at the ghostly, minute globule that had sought him out. The killer caught himself and with his hands on his knees, began breathing rapid, shallow breaths from the suddenness of it all. He soon calmed down and looked at the lifeless body in front of him. The dark, crimson life blood of Nurse Krus was slowly oozing from her as the demented man decided she now was indeed dead.
As the warm lights emitting from Sienna Springs Hospital gently illuminated the parking lot, the killer slowly looked up and realized at that moment he had not fully thought out his retribution. He hurriedly scanned the area and hastily decided he would dispose of his victim in the woods just past the end of the hospital’s parking lot.
In forty-three seconds, Connie Krus’ incomplete life had ended in a horrific murder. Her body would soon be dumped in the woods as callously as someone ridding themselves of a worn-out couch that had seen better days. That’s what the life of this once energetic woman had become. But to this new killer, it was more than that. Revenge had brought forth killing for hundreds-no, thousands of years. It was the settling of a score of the ultimate kind. Someone at last had finally paid for a horrible injustice done to him. At last someone had paid for killing his mother.
