One crisis after another, follow the adventurous lives of two young brothers through an unforgettable spring and summer in their young lives
Sherwood Park is a story of two young brothers growing up in North Toronto in the 1940's. This was a time without television. The horse drawn milk and bread wagons, outdoor hockey rinks, the local park, the school, the church, the doctor who came to the house, the local drug store and the grocery store with owners who looked out for the kids all form a back drop for this exciting story. The young boys would leave the house after breakfast on a summer morning and, packed with a lunch, would play in Sherwood Park until the street lights came on. They would play road hockey with pommes de la route for pucks. Generally, they led a carefree life until an incident occurred that changed their lives forever. Relive the forties or find out what it was like back then with Saturday afternoon matinees featuring Roy Rogers, Tom Mix, Hopalong Cassidy and Tarzan. Enjoy a special time with special children and see how they handle a life changing dilemma.
Excerpt
Suddenly anxious to rid himself of the guilt, he jumped over the fence with his rifle slung over his shoulder and the lifeless body of his first victim in his bloody, sticky hands. Immediately across the dirt road was the park. He found a spot in the familiar grove of trees, the same place where he had recently picked lilacs for his mom. He buried the squirrel in the soft earth and covered the spot with dead branches and twigs.
And then he sobbed, uncontrollably.
"Hey Billy."
It was Artie, Billy's brother, coming up the hill on his way home from the forest.
"Hey Billy, what're ya doin?"
Billy wiped his eyes hurriedly, not wanting his older brother to see him like this. He waved back.
"C'mon, Billy, doncha remember, it's Saturday. Let's get goin'. We gotta see if we can find any bottles or baskets for the show today."
