My Favourite Bridge
The freckle faced kid
with his protruding ears
too big for his tilting head,
sitting next to his grampa
on a manicured lawn
that slopes down to a man made pond,
made busy with imported ducks
and push pedal boats,
stares with curiosity
at the twinkle in the old man's eye,
remembering his swinging from tree to tree days
and swimming in a creek
that now has a high riser growing out of it,
the whimsical grin
as he recalls prying agates
out of a neighbour's marble rock garden,
the grimace
as he relives the sting
from an ass full of buckshot,
the road hockey games
with pommes de la route hockey pucks
gathered from behind horse drawn milk wagons,
no words were spoken,
just a smile
from boy to grampa,
from grampa to boy,
that bridged the years.
This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses
