A Strange Discovery
Enter Gornam Rand, 36 years young an astrophysicist employed by the classified El Cosmos Observatory/Laboratory and Military Facility. El Cosmos is considered one of the premiere epicenters for cutting edge space observation and headquarters of the most advanced space imaging system in the world.
A weary eyed Gornam sits at a computer. A laser system reveals a virtual universe that creates the illusion of billions of stars that seem to twinkle all around him as he examines a chart of Earth's solar system. “I wonder what that is?” He sees a pulsating light flickering on and off near Pluto. “Why does it keep flashing like that? Dark red, yellow, pink, and green I wonder what it means? Very interesting.”
Gornam looks up from his computer and peeks outside into the hallway. “Hey Carl!” He yells, “yeah! What is it Gornam?” “Come here for a minute will you?” Chief Scientist Carl Rooks, 45 walks into the room; looking perturbed as he approaches Gornam. “This had better be good Rand, I was right in the middle of something important.” Gornam looks up at Rooks with a smug grin. “I think that you’re going to find this real interesting, take a look at this chart and tell me what you see?
Rooks leans in closer to the screen; “I see Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto and” he notices the anomaly and begins to squint in hopes of gaining a better perspective. “Why is that dot flashing on the screen like that?” “Exactly! We picked it up using microwave frequencies, it seems to be some type of anomaly.” “Yeah, but what? Listen Gornam go round up the staff and I’ll call Romuel, I think that he needs to know about this and by the way good job Rand.” Carl pats Gornam on the shoulder and walks away. Carl enters his office sits down at his desk, picks up the phone on his desk and dials 733-2633.
Zoom in to a 10 x 10 room with stacks of files lying all about, in the corner of the room sitting in an executive chair a powerfully built man wearing a four star general uniform reaches for the receiver and picks it up. “Biggs here,” Colonel we may have an emergency here, your presence at the meeting room ASAP is needed; we've made a discovery that we think you ought to see. I’m going to bring you a few snapshots of what we’ve captured so far.” Biggs hesitates for a moment; then answers, “sounds good.”
Minutes later Rooks walks into Bigg's office and hands him the disk containing pictures of the anomaly. Biggs takes the disk and inserts it into his computer, the chart loads up, “let's see what we've got?” Biggs looks over the snap shots, “interesting do you have a reading on what this is all about?” “No, not yet we're still looking into it; that is why I’ve called the staff meeting downstairs, if you can think of anything that might help us to clear up this mystery please drop by and share it with us?”
“Sure thing.” Colonel Biggs takes another look at the chart, “you know if I didn't know any better I would swear that this is a… No, it couldn't be,” Biggs waves Carl on. “Go on Carl don’t worry about it,” Carl leaves the room. Downstairs in the Assembly Room, Gornam and various members of the staff gather and take their places at the round table and begin talking amongst themselves.
Five minutes later Carl Rooks enters the room and walks toward a chalkboard situated at the front of the room. The staff grows silent as Rooks begins to speak, “no doubt you all have heard about Dr. Rand’s strange discovery in the outermost region of Pluto; that is the reason why we have called this meeting today.”
