I love books with cowboys and I love books with the hard edged Special Forces, black ops guys; put them together and it is a dream come true for me. In Cowboy Love On Hold we meet Brandon the special forces guy, Kimber and Wade the cowboy. They used to be friends—more than friends actually. Brandon and Wade had been friends since their early childhood. Kimber and Brandon used to be an item, and well there was just a tad more between Brandon and Wade, but they never worked that out because Brandon turned his back on them and joined the military. Now he is back and they all have to work out if they can work as a threesome, or if their feelings will blow everything and everyone apart. Can Wade reconcile his feelings for Brandon? Can Kimber deal with the fact that she loves two men? Can they survive an attack from Brandon's past that threatens to tear them all asunder?
I loved the characters of Brandon and Kimber and Wade. To be honest, I felt that Brandon was a better developed character than the other two. I understood him and what he had been through and how his history caught up with him. I also understood his special code that meant he was willing to walk out of the lives of the two people who meant the world to him, rather than hurt them. His history and background were clear and spelled out.
Wade and Kimber had stayed in their hometown and apart from the reference about Wade giving up a law career to run the family farm and Kimber giving up a teaching career, not much else was explained about the two. Personally, I don't get those sacrifices—you can do both these days and that seemed a bit harsh to me, to restrict the characters in this way, but hey, that's the author's prerogative and just a little bugbear on my part.
It took a while for Wade to finally admit that he loved Brandon. Brandon had always known this, but I also felt that 20 years was an awfully long time to stay away from those you loved. The take on this relationship was interesting—usually in m/f/m stories, it is the guys who love the woman, who loves them back, or the guys already love each other and are looking for a woman to complete them. This time the guys loved each other (but hadn't admitted it) and the woman, so the depth and intensity of this triangle was immense. The sex scenes were hot—the m/m and the m/f/m. Two gorgeous hunks and a girl—well you can't go wrong there—there was an emotional intensity in the lovemaking that was felt. It was right when it happened and I also enjoyed the resolution, which I won't give away here, but suffice it to say it was again a different take on all of the other m/f/m stories that I have read.
Ms. Ryder has written a story of a homecoming, an acceptance of who each person was, and a relationship between three people who love each other deeply, who never knew until it was nearly taken away, how much they loved each other. Well done Ms. Ryder. Keep them coming!

Wow! Talk about a storyline that will keep you on edge and unsure in which direction the author is going with the plot. Would it be a Happy for Now type story or a Happy Ever After ending? With two alpha males who both want to run the show and a woman who loves them, the plot was full of conflict and unsure feeling on the part of all three characters. I had so many mixed emotions as I watched the tale unfold. It was definitely a nail-biting journey as I read the book.
Special Ops Brandon Reed returns home after twenty years and opens a can of worms when he learns that his best friend and his ex-girlfriend are lovers. Wade and Kimber never thought they would see Brandon again but when the three come together after all these years, mysteries and untold truths from the past come out that will either tear them apart or draw them closer together.
It is the heart-wrenching emotions that drew me to each of the characters and made the plot unique and enthralling to the end. As the secrets were revealed, I feared that this story would end up as a love affair only without a happy ending, which made it hard for me to take because I had fallen for all three in one way or another and wanted to see them all happy.
For a short story, Ms. Ryder did an amazing job of writing a yummy M/M/F story with a plot that will keep you engrossed until the last word. Can’t wait for my friends to read the hot male, male action found in the book and I may even let them borrow my fan so they will not overheat. With a strong plot, plenty of emotion and super hot sex scenes, I highly recommend this book and am on the hunt to find more books written by this talented author.
