A scared little mouse.
The witch’s hats hung
By the caldron with care,
Hopeful of catching
A spider somewhere.
The goblins and cats
Were snug in their beds.
Visions of bats
Flew in their heads.
To Mummy’s coffin
I gave a light tap,
And wished her a nightmare
Or two through her nap.

Just in time for the Halloween season, a very special witch, named Sondi Miller, created in particular for monsters, big and small, "THE NIGHT BEFORE HALLOWEEN."
Instead of stockings by the chimney, it's witches' hats. Instead of children nestled snug in their beds, it's goblins and cats. As the author spins her web of all things spooky and creepy, sinister and uncanny, the reader becomes a willing participant in having his spine chilled to a tingle by this weird and wonderful poem. I, for one, followed my disturbing little vampire guide over backyards and graveyards to await with rasping breath the arrival of the Great Jack-O-Lantern.
