I prayed for the ringing in my ears to subside. I began to hear music on the breeze . . . songs, sweet and sincere. I found myself walking toward the music. The music was somewhat familiar, and soothing to me. The cold fear in me was leaving and I was being drawn to this source of melodic peace. I wondered what was going on. Why did I feel so melancholy? I just had to go to the music! Clouds had drifted by, shading me from the sun. Whoa! I stopped short and gawked, my mouth open in awe. There before me, spotlighted by a brilliant shaft of sunlight, was a small white church, a country church. I could clearly hear a soulful song being sung . . . strangely familiar . . . the words floated to me on the notes . . . . soothing my tortured mind . . . ‘Just a closer walk with thee, grant it Jesus is my plea . . . daily walking close to thee . . . let it be dear Lord, let it be.’ The windows of the church were open. The song came out through them and in my condition it seemed to travel right up the church steeple, pointing like a giant angelic finger toward Heaven where God sat swaying to the worshipful song. This was not an allusion, and not hallucination. It was Divine.

What an adventure!...preacher, lover, sinner, escapee, fear, laughter and redemption...

This story took me by surprise. I expected an inspirational story and a lot of 'Church Speak', but it was much more,as the lead character was not just a big time, mega-church preacher, but one with real vulnerabilities just like everyone else. The last thing I expected was romance and adventure, danger and a walking trip across much of Mexico. The story grabbed my attention and would not let go. Powerful spiritual experiences, an intense and enduring love story; fallen preacher on the lam in Mexico, hurricanes and humor, incite into Mexican culture and redemption. Great Read.
