This is the second book in the American Knights series which started with Miles Knight leaving Ireland and journeying to America just before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. He worked as an indentured servant for John Mead where he met and eventually married the adopted daughter of Mead, Mary Mead.
As a wedding present John gave the newlyweds 200 acres of good farm land in North Carolina. They were also given another gift by Mead, a black slave known only as Big Boy.
When Miles gave Big his freedom and told him he could go anywhere he so chose, Big said he'd be honored to go with Miles and Mary to North Carolina. The three of them packed up their belongings and made the move.
Eventually Miles made Big part owner in the plantation the two of them developed and even started another business on the side; that of making knives, hatchets, belts, and scabbards.
With Indian encounters and the clouds of war growing darker everyday, life for the Knights was far from boring. Hard work, danger, mixed with pain and laughter mingled in with the dawning of each day.
This book brings the War ever closer and soon Miles knows he will be involved in the freeing of America from British rule.
