After a difficult divorce Kate plans to start a new life on the other side of the world with her young son, David. Her ex-husband, Alec, has other ideas and disappears with their son, leaving Kate in a desperate search to find them. Kate’s concern grows when she receives a disturbing text. Unable to convince the authorities to act quickly, Kate takes matters into her own hands, but when she eventually finds them, she is forced to put her own life on the line in order to save her son.

Alec smiled broadly, looking at his own reflection in the train window. Just a camping trip with his son, what could be the harm in that? They wouldn’t know anything was wrong for weeks, and by that time they’d never find them.
He noticed Davie’s head nodding and realised the boy was falling asleep. Alec was pleased as he needed some time to think things through, because since the divorce his mind had been in turmoil. He hadn’t meant for everything to get so out of hand, and if Kate had waited a while instead of filing papers for divorce straight away he might have gone back to her.
It hadn’t really occurred to him that she might try to take Davie away. He thought she’d always be living nearby, waiting for the time he was ready to greet her with open arms. It was unacceptable that she wanted this ridiculous new life thousands of miles away and he wasn’t going to allow it. She was a mother, and should be home looking after her child and waiting for her husband when he chose to go home. She needed to be taught a lesson and he was happy to be the one to do so.
