"Crystal of My Heart" is a wonderful romance that also includes elements of science fiction, mystery, adventure, as well as an intriguing quasi time travel twist. This book won the Editor's Choice Award as well as the Reader's Choice Award from the publisher.
In “Crystal of My Heart,” the heroine Careen wakes up in the mud on the side of a road and finds that her entire world has changed. Bewildered by the absence of electricity, cars, telephones, or anything from her modern world, she searches for someone who can help her. She’s befriended by the Dryden family and they discover that she’s been transported from a parallel dimension by a set of mystifying crystals. While seeking for a way to send her home, they uncover a group of fanatics—who call themselves Guardians—that want to destroy not only the crystals that transported her, but also anything and anyone that know about the crystals and what they can do. It’s a rollercoaster ride with some very interesting twists that you won’t expect. The love story between Careen and Conner Dryden is quite engaging and will make you laugh in places and cry in others. So if you enjoy drama, mystery, suspense, romance, and humor, then you’ll really enjoy this novel.

It was a strange sensation. It was like falling through a tunnel filled with strange lights and sounds. Shades of blue, black, and gray surrounded her, engulfed and caressed her as if the tunnel were a living thing. She kept falling deeper and deeper into the abyss, not sure if she was awake or caught in some strange dream. Then all at once the tunnel started pulsating, the colors growing in intensity until it hurt to look at them. A drumming sound came at her from all directions. She tried to close her eyes and put her hands over her ears, but the sound and colors were becoming so intense, so vibrant, they exploded in her mind like a thousand tiny needles. When at last she felt she would go mad from the sensations, everything suddenly stopped. She fell into a void of blackness and silence.
This was an adventure and love story which started the 3 book series. The author really new how to create the characters and the time warp. Just think of what would happen to you if you suddenly found yourself back before electricity.
