My mirror quakes, hides, “Hi-ho Silver . . . go away.” Gone too long without hormones (growing more hair everywhere) I resemble a bear. Mud-faced, wild hair, door bell rang . . . he’s in a straight-jacket now. Oh shoot! What a hoot! Renovation . . . there’s a mixer on my rear. Introduction to ATOTW
There are, I think, several things that all readers of poetry unconsciously look for in, and between, the lines of a poem. Will the writer have a curiosity that is bold enough to speculate? Is there an awareness of the subtle interactions between people and their surroundings? Does the writer have the ability to connect thoughts and events with a binding thread. Lastly, does the writer paint a portrait of the aura of energy surrounding the subjects observed
To my mind Sandy demonstrates conclusively, by the works contained in this book, that she has all of the above qualities.
When you read her poems you will certainly see that she is quite artistically curious, and that her awareness is finely tuned. In the end you will see, and feel, the dynamic display of energy involved in a diversity of events, and you will understand the passion they generate in the author.
