A soldier discovers the cost of honor at the truce village of Panmunjom on the border of North Korea.

A young recruit learns the price of honor trying to win a medal for himself in the truce village of Panmunjom, on the volatile border of North and South Korea, between two of the world's largest hostile forces. The North Koreans are as tough and mean as the propaganda blaring from their loudspeakers. In an era of push-button warfare, at Panmunjom they still fight like cavemen, with fists and rocks. An intimate and ribald portrait of what it was like to serve in an elite handpicked force at Panmunjom. Based on a true story.

Freedom Pagoda
By Abafwetu
I thought this book was even better than Sammon's first - The God's Who Stunk. Freedom Pagoda delivers the inside view of a young man's life inside the military, serving in a foreign country, and facing the challanges of life and love for the first time. While it gives you a good look inside the military and political workings of warring parties, it also is reflective of one man's life that is touching, raw and real. It's a boy becomes a man story that will leave you wondering when the sequel will be available.

Jim Mazour: I recommend this book to all JSA veterans. It will bring back lots of memories, especially for those who served in the unit during the early 1970's time period.
