A second trip through a tear in the curtain of time
Finding a husband is the main occupation of many young ladies in 1803 Bath, and Alexandra Barton is no exception. But her situation is a little different. She is already engaged to someone, and he's waiting for her, more than 200 years in the future. Allie is determined to find her way back to him, but to do that, she must first negotiate the minefield of Georgian manners -- and avoid being arrested for murder.
'Otherwise Engaged' is the second book in the Time Traveller Trilogy.

I had an uneasy feeling I was up against a time limit. I had to work out a way to avoid being arrested for murder and get back to the present, all within the next twenty-four hours or so. For some reason, I could almost hear a clock ticking, warning me time was short.
By some sort of silent mutual agreement, the subject of Conway’s death was dropped and we turned to more cheerful subjects. Edward excused himself, probably knowing he would be bored stiff with the discussion of fashion and courtships.
Eventually we exhausted even those subjects, and Eliza said it was time for us to leave.
“Do call again sometime,” Charlotte said.
“Thank you; we would be delighted to.”
“And Finlay sends his kind regards to you, too,” Aurelia said.
I didn’t remember Finlay saying anything of the sort. Charlotte blushed a little.
“How thoughtful of him to think of me.”
Eliza steered us rapidly to the door, and I could see I wasn’t going to have a chance to check on my abandoned stockings. Out on the street again, she said, “Aurelia, do you think it wise to encourage that attraction? Charlotte Stevenson is charming, but I doubt her parents think Finlay is an acceptable suitor.”
“I couldn’t say,” Aurelia said. “You know as well as I, that he is quite taken by her, and if she reciprocates the affection, then who knows? She might prevail, even if her parents object.”
“You are far too romantic,” Eliza said. “It is all very well to marry for love, but we must also be practical. However fond of her he may be, Finlay could not support Charlotte in the style she would expect.”
“I assume then, it was sheer practicality that led you to flirt with Edward Stevenson last night?”
“I did not do so, Aurelia.”
“Oh, then perhaps it was merely my imagination that saw you almost clinging to him, and spurning other dancing partners. If Finlay is unsuitable for Charlotte, what chance do you expect to have with Edward?”
Had we not been on a public thoroughfare, we might have had a face-slapping, hair-pulling catfight on our hands. Eliza glared at her sister, while Aurelia displayed an expression of complete innocence.
“Um, perhaps we should move on,” I said, noting that a few people were looking at us. “Where do the Parrs live?”
