Excerpt
Drake told Junior, “I’m glad you told our mother to run out of the church. I was going to kill both of them inside the church.”
As they were flying back at a much slower pace, Junior told Drake where he had been for all of his thirty-plus years as a deceased vampire.
“I was only two when I died, but I learned so much in the other land. It’s a land where only vampires can enter. There are all kinds of vampires, same as humans—wicked ones like Cine, moderate vampires who are there because an evil one decapitated them. Then there is our type.”
“What type are we?” Drake was learning.
“Middle of the road types, who would only kill when it’s justified. Our kind doesn’t kill humans who are not evil. But, if we see someone take another’s life purposely, we kill. Understand?” Junior told Drake.
“I do. So, I’m not evil. I didn’t feel evil. I guess we got that from our parents?”
“We did, but Father never knew. So we’ll keep our little secret from Mother because she doesn’t know about vampirism and our Romanian hereditary. So never tell Mother. Okay?”
“I won’t. Mother was the best parent of everyone in school. She was always there for me. I married a girl named Helen because of her love for the taste of blood. She was the first vampire I knew. I thought I was strange. I didn’t know about vampires. She was a beautiful woman, but she was wicked. I wasn’t. I tried to be like her, but I couldn’t.”
“Good for you,” said Junior. “Where is Helen?”
“She was poisoned, along with her dad and me.”
Junior replied, “Oh, that’s not good. Beheading is the only way to get rid of a vampire for good. We’ll need to watch Mother and the children because if Helen comes back, she’ll want Joni and Oliver.”
“The only way she can come back is to communicate in some way to her three sisters, the way I did with Mother. In the shop that Cline and Saffron had, there’s an old mural painted on a wall. It was painted by a vampire many years ago. It’s rare to find the mural anywhere, but Mother found it by accident.”
“There are no accidents, Drake. Remember that.”
“I will.”
Drake finished telling the story of how he escaped the tomb because of their mom, and then they took a faster pace in their flight on the way to where they were staying.
“I’ll beat you to the old barn. Want to race?” Junior told Drake.
“You’re on, brother. I’m faster than you.”
They laughed all the way back to an abandoned barn where they were staying, where there were no houses and no streets.

The trilogy has to be read in parts. Make sure to read part one before Drake's return.
The Vampire Drake
A thrilling story about Mazy and Darcy's life as they become vampires. Jacque and John join in. All of Mary Lynn's stories have a different slant to storytelling that makes you want to keep reading her books. I can't wait for part three. I recommend.

Calmly, Mazy answered, “Because you were so young, and I thought it would be best not to tell you. It’s that simple. Your dad and I were just married here in New Orleans, and we didn’t have a tomb, so we placed Junior here in my parents’ tomb. When you died, I wanted you to be with your grandparents and your older brother. Does that make sense to you?” ionia.com.vn
Mazy began staring into the mirror. She didn’t see Lily White. She waited for a face to come to her inside of the mirror. Her thoughts stayed in the present. If it wasn’t the face of Drake, she had questions to anyone who appeared in that mirror.
Suddenly, Mazy saw only Drake’s face clearly in a gray fog. Feeling faint, she covered her mouth with her hands at the sight of her dead son, with fangs to avoid gasping. It was shocking for her to see Drake as the vampire he was. But she had to stay calm and compose herself, and she did. The three men who stayed with her in the back of the room noticed her on the floor, and one attempted to help her up. She told him she was okay, but they didn’t see Drake.
Touching the mirror, she called his name. “Drake, it’s me… your mother. I’m shaking. This is the only way we could think of to get me in this shop. I’m dressed like a man and sneaked in with the rest. I’ll take off the mustache if you want.”
“No, Mother. I know who you are. I can’t stay here long. You need to help me get back to Earth.”
“What? How? If you can see in the mirror, are you still in your urn in the tomb? I’m confused and so nervous.”
“Yes, I’m still in my urn. It’s sealed shut as well as the marble on the front of the tomb. Please let me out of here. I’ll explain everything.”
Mazy was mortified.
“Drake, you wanted to drink blood from Joni. You didn’t care if she died because she’s not a vampire. So, I did what I promised you I’d do when you were dying in Tennessee. I brought Joni with me to New Orleans, and Harper is with Helen’s three sisters in Tennessee. So why would you want to come back here? And why should I help you after you showed yourself not to care about your child?”
“Because Cline and Saffron are evil. They were in my Congregation. I wasn’t as evil and them. I know them well. Mother, they want Joni and a little redhead boy. I hear them speaking in here when they’re alone. They don’t see me. I see them. I don’t know about a red-haired boy, but don’t let them take Joni. Please, Mother. Keep her inside.”
“Why would they want Joni and Oliver? His name is Oliver, and he’s my best friends’ grandson. They play together, go to the same school, and they’re the same age.”
“I know. I hear them say that. These vampires are obsessed with the number eight. Both of the children are eight years old, and they will not stop going after them to take them away until they reach the age of nine, Mother.”
“But why eight?”
“Because when the number 8 is sideways ∞, it means infinity. Infinity goes on forever. It’s infinite. It’s never-ending, and God created vampires on the 8th day. This group begins turning eight-year-olds into vampires by biting them in the neck little by little until they bite deep before reaching nine years old. I never did that, Mother.”
“Oh, my Heavens above. In July, they reach the age of nine! That’s eight months away.”
“I know, and the group will not stop going after them. I will stop them, Mother. Me and Junior. Keep her away from all bats. Please, Mother. Help me get out of this tomb.”
“I don’t know if that’s possible. I just can’t go to the tomb and break it open!” Mazy was whispering forcefully.
“I know. Go to the church and ask permission to open the tomb. You’re the only one who can help me.”
“Where’s Helen and her dad?”
“They’re in a tomb in Tennessee and stuck inside, the same way I am. There’s no mirror to communicate with them. There’s no mural in Tennessee. Vampires know about the legend of the mural. It’s a vampire who drew it for occasions like this. But there are not many murals. The statue guards all evil. Lily White is not evil.”
Mazy was speechless for almost a minute.
“Mother?”
“Will you promise to protect Joni?” she blurted out in a low whispered anger that she didn’t know she had inside of her for Drake.
“Yes, I promise. I will protect you and your friends as well. Is there anyone you want me to protect? I’ll protect all of them. Joni wasn’t going to die. You’ll just have to trust me on that. I have powers, Mother.”
“What kind of powers?” Mazy suddenly became amazingly calmer.
“I can run like the wind, and I can shapeshift.”
“What is that?”
“I can turn into anything I want at any time. But, Mother, I saw an older brother who died at two years old in this tomb. Why didn’t you tell me?”
Calmly, Mazy answered, “Because you were so young, and I thought it would be best not to tell you. It’s that simple. “Yes, it does. You were always thoughtful in family matters, but I talked to Junior. Mother, he’s a vampire too. So when I get out of the tomb, he’s going to be with me.”
“Oh, my Heaves above, help me!” Mazy’s calmness went away, and she began crying. “Will I ever see him? I don’t know how much more I can handle.”
