In her office, Janice read the statements again and put them through the shredder. She stood, swayed slightly, and pushed a floor panel with her foot to release the door into an adjacent room. Moving through, she closed the door behind her and stared at the uniformed body of her colleague. He was slumped face down on the desk, head resting in a pool of coagulated blood.
Suddenly, the winged alien was outside her, standing two metres away, observing with its head on one side. She sensed an instantaneous chill invade her body as the creature emerged but, once free of it, Janice felt warmer and strangely fearless. No words or other communication passed but Janice felt its mind boring into hers, trying to understand her emotions. At least she thought she did. She didn’t really want to see it anymore, was not interested in it at all, and wished it was light-years away.
“I’m sorry, Daniel,” she said to the motionless body of her partner. “I’m so sorry. I really could not help it.”
A tangle of meaningless images ran through her mind, and she turned to face her symbiotic disciple from another world. Something passed between them, intangible and outside her scope of logical thought. She asked the question anyway.
“What do you want from me? What do you want from us?”

For those of us who enjoyed The Twilight Zone, Silently in the Night by Clayton Graham is just as thrilling. This book is a collection of tales where ordinary men and women are confronted with the unexpected.
I love each story and will return to read them again. One story titled Watering Down, sticks out in my mind. It centers on the calicivirus, which can cause upper respiratory infections and oral disease in cats. Probably because I am a cat lover, or because I have memories of the Dustin Hoffman 1995 film titled Outbreak, Watering Down made such an interesting and unexpected tale.
I suspect, everyone who reads Silently in the Night will come away with one or more favorites. If you enjoy science fiction and mysteries that make your heart stands still when aliens, artificial intelligence, death, the unexplained or unexpected interact with your reality; Silently in the Night should be top of your reading list.
I am fortunate to have read Author Clayton Graham’s science fiction debut novel titled Milijun. When aliens kidnap Laura’s child, it’s going to take a lot more than a mother’s love to get him back.
I am looking forward to his upcoming release of Saving Paludis where “Nobody thought Paludis would become a battlefield, nor Earth for that matter, but in the darkest of times a glimmer of light can shine, resolute spirits can triumph over brutality and the strangest of strangers can become friends.”

This collection of 16 unique short stories was a treasure to read. The author was able to capture various moments in time and transform them into fun-size bites of entertainment.
Each story left me dumbfounded and in a state of shock. The first story, Silently in the Night, was a complete mystery. The unexpected twist at the end set the tone for the entire book. The final story, Trapped, told of an explorer trapped on an alien planet. The story ended with a type of closure that encompassed the entire book. All the stories sandwiched in between ranged from inevitability to satire to revenge.
After this taste of Clayton Graham’s writing talent, I will be adding a few of his titles to my “to be read” list. Thanks for sharing your book with me!!
Mystifying Intriguing Spectacular.

The collection of stories by Clayton Graham was just fantastic. Just when you think you have figured everything out ....Nothing is as it seems. The stories are mind blowing and very intriguing. My curiosity was stimulated beyond belief. The flow of the book was excellent because the novel wasn't cluttered with unnecessary explanations.He grabbed my interest and I was hooked.
I hope he puts together another selection. I can't wait.
I recommend this novel for everyone. I completely enjoyed it.
'Silently in the Night' is a compilation of short stories of differing genres, with most leaning towards fantasy and outer space. I do not consider outer space one of my favorite genres, however, the writing is full of colorful details regarding the scenery and characters. I will admit that somewhere throughout the book, Clayton Graham must have won me over with the excellent writing as I thoroughly enjoyed 'Daniel's Revolution,' a story towards the books end with outer space flavor.
The author has an abrupt way of ending a story leaving the reader to ponder and reflect on it's meaning.
All and all, I enjoyed 'Silently in the Night.' The material is interesting, easy to follow and very entertaining. Regardless your favored genre, the book covers many topics and is an enjoyable read!
