The light of the night

calls out my name

The fear grows strong

teaches me hate

of the one who does me wrong

And He Forgot Her

She left home when she was barely sixteen

She was tired of watching her body bleed

Her mama dies when she only nine

Her body grew tired when he beat her last time

And he forgot her when He took her mama away

And He forgot her when she was left behind to stay

She knows that the only way out is to stand so tall

She knows no one will hear her cries when she will call

Her mama tried

in the puddles where she cried

She knows that she can’t stay to take her mama’s place

She knows if she stays, she will wear her mama’s face

She doesn’t want to take that chance

to be her mama’s circumstance

She was left behind in a time when a girl should feel safe

She shouldn’t have to dodge every oncoming wave

When her daddy domes home after drinking till dawn

She shouldn’t have to be so afraid and on her own

And He forgot her when He took her mama away
